Highly competitive programs
Some programs are considered highly competitive, meaning applicants will be assessed and ranked based on academic grades.
Lakehead-²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵdegree-diploma programs

Additional requirements by student type
You may need to meet additional requirements if you’re applying to ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵas a student in one of the following categories:
Advanced standing uses a number of relevant postsecondary credits from recognized and accredited institutions and/or relevant life/learning experience toward course exemptions in a student’s ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ program that places the student in a semester beyond their first.
If you’re applying to ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵfrom another institution to a level greater than Level 1, you must complete your application, then contact ontariocolleges.ca at 1.888.892.2228 and indicate the requested level.
What is Level 1?
Starting levels indicate the year and semester in which you want to start a program. For example, Level 1 is the first semester of the first year, Level 2 is the second semester of the first year, Level 3 is the first semester of the second year, and so on.

Unlike international students, internationally trained students are Canadian citizens or permanent residents who have studied abroad.
If you’re an internationally trained student, you may need to have your official documents evaluated by Ìý´Ç°ùÌý For WES evaluations, we recommend a course-by-course analysis report.
You may also need to meet Georgian English language proficiency requirements.
Mature applications to postsecondary certificate and diploma programs
Applicants who are age 19 or older by the program start date and do not possess a high school diploma (OSSD) or the equivalent, you may be considered for admission to ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ as a mature student to most programs. Mature applicants must meet all program-specific prerequisites including all courses listed for each program, and all selection criteria.
Applicants must possess one of the following requirements to be eligible for admission to most certificate and diploma programs:
- Credit courses taken at Georgian
- Equivalent courses taken through high school or Independent Learning Centres (at the general, advanced, college or university level)
- Academic and Career Entrance Certificate (ACE program)
- Mature student testing that meets the minimum standards for admission (available through Testing Services)
- Available for applicants lacking Grade 12 English and/or math requirements
- Ontario High School Equivalency Certificate (GED)
- Credit courses taken through accredited colleges or universities
Mature applicants to degree programs
Mature applicants must meet all of the following all of the following criteria:
- Must be 19 years of age by the program start date
- Must have not attended an accredited postsecondary institution within the last two years
- Must meet all course-specific admission requirements or equivalents for the degree
- Must have demonstrated potential for success in degree studies through academic accomplishments
- Honours Bachelor of Science – Nursing (HBSN) applicants must have:
- met the four course requirements listed on the program outline and have earned a minimum grade of 70% in each of the four courses. An overall minimum GPA of 75% is recommended for all applicants.
- met the science and math requirements within the last five years.
- no unfavourable academic performance (achievements less than 60%) in the last two years.
- The following documents are required from mature applicants applying to degree programs:
- Official secondary school transcript(s)
- Supplemental Education Form or the HBSN Admissions Form (Note: Withholding information can result in offers being rescinded or students withdrawn from their programs).
Mature applicants must possess the published subject requirements or equivalents, and submit official copies of transcripts from high school and any postsecondary institutions attended. Applicants must also provide a resume outlining work and volunteer experience since full-time attendance at school.
Applicants educated in a home school system at the Grade 12 level are welcome to apply to ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ for postsecondary programs. All specific course requirements for the desired program must be met.
When official transcripts from college-approved institutions are not available to meet admission requirements, course specific equivalency testing for certificate or diploma programs may be an option. Testing may include:
- Communications Placement Assessment (CPA) tests for both mathematics and English,
- Challenge exams for some science subjects (check with your admissions officer or admissions@georgiancollege.ca for more information)
Applicants to degree-level programs are required to provide official transcripts from accredited institutions to support their application. Note that there are ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵpathway programs available for some degree-level programs as an alternative. Please contact your admissions officer or email admissions@georgiancollege.ca to discuss further.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)
Full-time studies: Once you’ve applied, you’ll receive a Welcome Email from Georgian. Here, you’ll find instructions on how to access the applicant portal where you can check to see if anything is outstanding.
Part-time studies: You’ll be advised when you apply/register.
Most subjects required for admission into postsecondary programs can be upgraded through your high school or at Georgian, or by mature student testing at Georgian.
Mature student test: If you’re over 19 or were home schooled, you may write our admissions test in communications and mathematics. Visit the Testing Services webpage to learn more and book a test appointment.
Upgrade your courses at Georgian: Learn about Academic and Career Preparation (ACP) programming to help you meet requirements for entry into a ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵprogram.
The success of our students is important to us. You may choose to complete the Communications Placement Assessment (CPA) process to determine the college-level communications course appropriate to your language level – either Communication Essentials (COMM 1016) or an upper-level communications course. If you choose not to complete the placement assessment, you must start with Communication Essentials. Learn more about communication courses at Georgian.

Even if you’re not required to complete Communication Essentials, you’ll still be required to complete the mandatory number of communications courses to graduate from your program. The CPA test cannot grant you an exemption for graduation purposes.
If you’re age 19 or older by the program start date and don’t possess a high school diploma (OSSD) or the equivalent, you may be considered for admission to the college as a mature student to most programs.
Mature applicants must meet all program specific prerequisite courses, including English, math, biology, chemistry and physics (if applicable). In most instances, mature applicants may be allowed to write the admissions tests for English and math in lieu of having these Ontario secondary school credits or their equivalent.
Applicants are considered on an individual basis. Meeting the minimum admissions requirement does not guarantee entrance to a program.

Mature applicants to degree programs must meet all of the following criteria:
- Must be 19 years of age or older by the program start date
- Must not have been enrolled in a formal education program for at least one year prior to the beginning of degree studies (HBSN applicants must not have attended an accredited postsecondary institution within the last two years)
- Must not have any recent unfavourable academic performance
- Must have demonstrated potential for success in degree studies through academic accomplishments
- Must possess the published subject requirements or equivalents and submit official copies of transcripts from high school and any postsecondary institutions attended
- Must provide a resumé outlining work and volunteer experience since full-time attendance at school
Please note, mature student testing is not applicable to degree-level programs.
Nov. 1 is the earliest date that colleges may begin to send offers of admission to programs for the upcoming academic year (e.g., Nov. 1, 2022 for programs starting in fall 2023, winter 2024 or summer 2024). Offers will continue to be issued until programs are full or waitlists are established.
Offers of admission to highly competitive programs may be released starting Feb. 1, the equal consideration deadline (e.g., Feb. 1, 2023 for programs starting in fall 2023, winter 2024 or summer 2024). Applications received after Feb. 1 will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis until programs are full.
